Frequently asked questions
Short answers below. More detail lives on How it works, Pricing, Privacy, and Security.
General
What is Mark My Tests?
Mark My Tests (MMT) is a web app for UK teachers to upload a test paper, mark scheme, and class scripts. An automated pipeline proposes marks aligned to your scheme; you review before exporting analytics and PDFs. You can start without an account for anonymous sessions; sign in for history, credit packs, and school features.
Do I need an account?
No for a first run — open a new session from the home page. Create an account when you want saved classes, credit balances, team pools, or to attach sessions to your organisation.
Which subjects are supported?
The pipeline is built for long-form written answers across GCSE and A Level-style papers. You supply your own mark scheme, so subject coverage depends on your materials rather than a fixed board catalogue.
Marking accuracy
Is AI marking an official exam-board result?
No. Exam boards do not endorse this tool. Marks are drafts for teacher review. Use professional judgement on what may be reported externally or used for certification.
How do you handle ambiguous handwriting?
Low-confidence reads are surfaced during name review and marking review. You can override cells before anything is exported.
What about coursework or NEA?
MMT is aimed at test-style scripts and mock papers. Do not upload materials you are not permitted to share with a processor — follow your trust rules for controlled assessment.
Privacy and data
Where is data processed?
We use EU-region infrastructure where available for application data. Vertex AI processing locations are described in Google’s documentation; see our Privacy and Security pages for subprocessors.
How long do you keep scripts?
Scripts are deleted within 7 days after processing unless a longer retention is required for an agreed school workflow. Session metadata and billing records follow the retention described in the Privacy notice.
Do you train foundation models on my papers?
We configure Google Vertex so your content is not used to train Google’s public foundation models. See Google Cloud’s data-processing terms for details.
Pricing and billing
How much does a script cost?
The default guest rate is £1.50 for a standard-length script (one credit). Extended papers consume more credits — see the pricing page for the tier table.
Can we buy in bulk?
Yes. Solo teachers can buy credit packs; schools can buy larger packs into a team pool and allocate credits to staff.
What payment methods are supported?
Checkouts run through Stripe. Receipts and VAT treatment follow your Stripe customer details.
Schools and teams
Can a department share one budget?
Yes. Organisations hold a pool balance. Owners and admins allocate credits to members and can configure overflow behaviour.
Who can invite users?
Organisation owners and admins send invites. Members run sessions against their allocation or the pool according to policy.
Exam boards and compliance
Are you affiliated with an exam board?
No. Exam boards are independent. We do not claim alignment to a board unless your uploaded mark scheme supplies that alignment.
Can pupils upload their own scripts?
Schools can use the optional pupil upload flow where enabled. Policies and consent remain the school’s responsibility.
